You’ve made your account, bid on a vehicle, and won the auction…now what. We’ll walk you through how to pick up your Copart vehicle with step-by-step instructions. It’s pretty easy if you know what you need ahead of time. Going in unprepared can lead to delays and fees.
Step 1: Pay for Your Vehicle
First off, make sure your vehicle is paid for. If your balance isn’t paid off then you won’t be able to pick up your vehicle. Make sure to pay quickly to avoid late or storage fees, about 2 business days.Step 2: Obtain the Gate Pass
Once your payment is processed and confirmed, you’ll receive a Gate Pass, which acts as your pickup authorization. This is required for anyone picking up the vehicle. You can access and print the Gate Pass from your Copart account dashboard under "Payments" or "Won Items."Use the Copart App: To manage your pickups, payments, and Gate Passes all in one place.Step 3: Check Pickup Times and Location Details
- Locate the Yard: Find the Copart yard you plan to visit here. Each location has its own operating hours and days.
- Contact the Yard: Call ahead to confirm visiting hours and ensure the vehicle you’re interested in is available for viewing. These yards can have dozens, if not more, of vehicles and there are a lot of moving parts to managing auctions and inventory. Buyers are allowed in designated sale rows only.
- Plan Your Visit: Some yards may require an appointment, while others allow walk-ins. Check if there are any visitor restrictions or requirements due to health and safety regulations.
Step 4: Choose a Pickup Method
You have three main options for picking up your vehicle:1. Pick It Up Yourself- Bring a trailer, flatbed, or appropriate transport method.
- Vehicles are not always drivable.
- Tow trucks are highly recommended for damaged or inoperable vehicles.
- You can hire a third-party transporter
- Make sure they have a copy of your Gate Pass and valid photo ID..
- You can use Copart’s in-house transportation services for convenience.

Step 5: Arrive at the Yard
- Bring your Gate Pass, valid photo ID., and any other required documents.
- Head to the Check-In Office at the yard.
- Staff will direct you to the loading area.
- Bring Safety Gear: Some yards require closed-toe shoes, safety vests, or hard hats.
